The Learning Support / Resource Team for the school year  2012-2013 are Ms Noelle Gleeson, Ms Geraldine Brennan/Ms Marcella Holohan and Ms Mary Farrell.

The aim of Learning Support / Resource in St John’s NS is to support the specific learning needs of children who may require extra support. Support is offered in both literacy and numeracy along with other specific learning programmes such as specific speech and language, gross and fine motor skills, social and life skills etc.,

Programmes in the school:

1. Literacy Lift-Off (Junior Infants to 2nd Class). This programme offers the children the opportunity to read daily a range of 2,400 very finely graded books, over 30 levels. They also have intensive phonic and writing sessions each day as part of this 6 week intervention programme.

2. Mighty Maths (Senior Infants/First Class). A very structured maths programme giving the children instruction in early number and another maths topic each day. The  children work in 4 small groups daily, allowing them an opportunity to learn using concrete materials / appropriate structured hands-on activities and through intense teaching.

3. Soar and Explore. A levelled reading programme.

5. Other programmes such as Toe by Toe, Precision Teaching and Maths Recovery continue
